First Day at UNHS
Sep. 29th, 2005 06:42 pmWell, I just had my first day. It was...not as bad as I thought it was. Ms. Leiva is preferable to Ms. Hower, totally. They both teach Humanities, though Hower's students seem a cut above Leiva. The fact that they're seniors might have something to do with it though.
Tomorrow is a math class, sciences, and more humanities. Oh well. Learning Center after school is like boring. No one showed up. The only reason why we weren't alone in the library was because the Model UN Club was having their meeting and kept us entertained. It seems like physics tutors are in need but alas, I've never taken a physics class in my life so I wouldn't even know how to begin to help them.
I mean, if it's Bio, I can do that. If it's Chem, hey, even better. I can do peer editing and general English stuff (I mean a four in AP English Lit must mean something, right?) and social sciences are a pet love of mine... And they need math tutors too. I'm passable in pre-Calculus, but it's been a while... :\ I don't like math all too much I'm afraid.
But I had been expecting MUCH stupider students from what Janet was telling me. I mean, they aren't the best students but they weren't as bad as I thought they would be. I mean, the principal's assessment that freshman were about sixth grade level seems about correct. *shrugs* They can make it to a college in four years -- it'll just take work.
Anyway, I met a fellow Oregonian who was another tutor at UNHS. But she's a master's student so she's quite a bit older than I am. It was nice talking to her. :)
After after-school learning center, I went to Pathmark again. I bought lots of goodies -- cereal, strawberry jelly and peanut butter (for peanut butter sandwiches), lettuce and deli meats (for normal sandwiches), canned corn (since they were on sale), some more Banquet dinner meals (hey, Diana-chan, is $0.99 cheap for the Fried Chicken Dinners? Comparatively, I mean), more pot pies because I adore pot pies... :\ Yeah, bought a good amount. Oh! And some Cup of Noodles! They were six cups for $2.00 -- score! I'm going to buy more tomorrow! :) Yayness. :)
And meat this weekend. Some time anyway. I need meat from Dynasty (could use some sushi and bubble tea pick-me-up as well).
Gah, I'm so tired... Long day... I'm going to the China Mei Society Mid-Autumn Festival party thing (yes, I know it's late) for free food. *laughs* That's all we do -- we go, sit down, get some food, eat and leave. We're so shameful... But hey, free food! No need to cook! Hell, yeah, I'm there! Need to leave in two minutes so gotta go for now...
