Bright Girl's Success Story
Aug. 1st, 2006 02:41 amIt's rare that I would watch a Korean drama but I decided to give Bright Girl's Success Story a chance considering the plot sounded like a typical shoujo manga.
Basically a country girl is being persecuted by her village people's because her parents had swindled practically everyone in the village. So the villagers want her to pay them back what her parents had swindled. In order to do, they force the main character Yang-soon to give up her schooling, force her to go to Seoul to work as a maid to a rich family to pay them all back.
Before this happens, while she is taking a bath in a tub outside, a man falls into her tub. The man is Ki-tae, the President of a cosmetic company and he's probably the most arrogant, spoiled man out there and unfortunately he gets into a misunderstanding with Yang-soon. This causes them part with very bad feelings towards each other. But when she goes to Seoul, she becomes the maid in Ki-tae's household.
Through some rather terrible beginnings and more misunderstandings, an evil backstabbing friend, an eviler fiance of Ki-tae, both Yang-soon and Ki-tae go through some really terrible events. But these only serve to bring them closer together and realize how much they really liked the other person. But they fought the attraction the entire way which makes it even harder. It's like a shoujo manga. It's a bit cliche and parts of it are predictable but the characters are definitely memorable. They change and morph into these people that we genuine like. It's humorous, it's sad and depressing, it's frustrating but it's a wonderful story all around. Yang-soon isn't your typical shoujo girl character -- she'll end up fighting you the entire way (her dream of one day saving a Prince and having him fall in love with her is a good indication of the way she's not quite typical). And Ki-tae may be the spoiled, arrogant, nasty boss but he develops into better person who better understands the worth of the things around him.
And, the guy who plays Ki-tae, Jo Jang Hyuk is not bad on the eyes either. ^^ He also sings the theme song called "Love Song" and it's supposed to be rather romantic. I've been hearing it a lot in the show and I'm absolutely obsessed with finding it now. I'm having no luck yet, but I hope to have it within my grasp eventually.
