I just ate my first pear in god knows how many years. It's been at least three because I know I haven't eaten one since high school. Hell, I'm not even sure I even ate any pears in high school. Despite living in Hood River (or maybe because I was living in Hood River), I just didn't eat that many pears. I was surrounded by apples.
But I bought some today because they were cheap and I desperately wanted something fresh and juicy so I bought some. I cut them exactly the way my mother used to when she divided up fruit for us kids... Ah, the good memories...
Anyway, this week was basically studying. Last night I got Genetics out of the way that I eel relatively confident about it. I still have to major study for Politics though -- that's going to be just busy work studying I suspect. I finished my reading on Friday and now I'm just going over the stuff I think will be on the midterm. I still have to memorize my oral for Japanese too. I'm a bit worried about that because my partner is a bit of a flake. She was supposed to call me last night to go it over but she never called... I guess I could have but really, she knew I was making time for her in between my major studying (I went through 90 homework problems last night for Genetics -- that takes a long time, you know?) and she said she would call so... I mean it was on her mainly. But the memorizing isn't so bad. I just need about an hour or two tonight to do it. Everything else -- politics! I'm really freaked out that the guy will have problems like "You have a country that is just emerging from a dictatorship and it wants to establish a democracy. Should it establish a presidential system or a parliamentary one? Why and why not?" or it'll ask me if parties are necessary in a country and if so, is the two party system or multiparties best? It's so... crazy, you know? And the difference in differences stuff just suck.
Okay, I'm going to study for the next five hours or so. Yay. Before that, some downloads.
cruel_disorder asked if I could upload the songs by Waking Ashland when I wrote about them last week. I hadn't gotten back to her (of which I'm very sorry. Part of that reason was because I was swamped. The other reason was that I really only had one song and a rip I made from the Nano Mugen Fes. live video clip. But I got their Telescopes mini-album yesterday so now I have songs to offer. Most of the songs on it were okay but there were definitely a couple that I like more than others.
One is Reseda which is think is a really nice slow song of theirs. It struck me the first time I heard it as probably my favorite song off of Telescopes after Tortoise and the Hare which you all know is my favorite song and the reason why I even got this mini-album in the first place. It's a bit more severe in the album than the acoustic version they did for the Nano Mugen Festival and in some ways I prefer the acoustic version more. But I do like this version as well. It too me a bit to fully warm up to it, but it not bad.
Even so, I do like the rip better. So I'm offering that as well so you might do your own comparison. It's soft than the other version and it was a rip off a video clip so you might have to turn the volume up a bit to fully appreciate it.
Tortoise and the Hare (Nano Mugen Fes. 2006 live rip
The other song that I enjoyed immensely off of Telescopes was Telescopes itself. It's a powerful song that I think highlights their sort of music and talent quite well. Of course, their most well known song I Am For You probably does that the best. I absolutely adore "I Am For You." It's quite possibly my favorite song -- since the album version of "Tortoise and the Hare" wasn't as great as I had liked. I had heard that Composure, their first album was better than Telescopes but it has yet to arrive so hopefully I'll get that on Monday or Tuesday and I'll have something to compare it to.
I think I covered all the songs... Ah, wait, there's also Under the Gun which is an okay song... It's not my favorite nor do I hate it. Truthfully, I didn't dislike any of the songs I've heard so far -- it's more like categories of "like" and "not like as much." "Under the Gun" falls somewhere in between those two categories. It's more like I don't know why I like it but something about it struck me. I can't say I liked it as much as my top songs nor can I say I like it as much as my less liked songs. It's something I would listen to over and over again but I'll most likely pass it up in favor of "I Am For You" or "Telescopes." But I would pick it over something like "Flowers On A Wall" which I didn't like as much. *shrugs* It's odd. Anyway, those are my Waking Ashland songs. Download, don't, whatever. Diana-chan, I expect opinions from you at the very least. Try "I Am For You" and you can tell me once and for all if it's whiny or not. :)
