Home fries
Nov. 5th, 2006 01:15 pmI made home fries for lunch today. I've been wanting to make them for a while now since I love potatoes in probably every shape and form... Home fries is probably my second favorite breakfast potato dish, after hash browns of course which nothing can beat.
Anyway, I had the ingredients for it and I went and especially bought some paprika for it so I made it today. I've always thought that it would take too long to make because you have to boil the potatoes first before you can fry it all together with the onions and peppers but it was actually done pretty quickly. I put the potatoes on to boil first and then went about cutting everything else up which saved some time.
I've also discovered that paprika is what gives home fries that lovely color. I feel as though more seasoning was needed -- it lacked the kick I had wanted so next time I think I might put some Mexican seasoning or something along those lines to kick it up a notch.
And because home fries isn't exactly the best sort of meal (lots of carbs and fats), I finished it off with some juice and half of a grapefruit. Eating that grapefruit reminded me of why I don't particularly love grapefruit. They're really hard to eat and they need a good amount of sugar to counteract the fact that they're sour as hell. Still it was yummy. I wish I had the foresight to put it in the fridge last night though... Room temperature grapefruit just feels lacking in some ways...
