KYA! Skating fangirling moments!!!
Mar. 25th, 2007 07:28 pmI managed to catch today's exhibitions and it was just so cool!!! I adore exhibitions! It's like the skaters are all so much more free and expressive now that the competition is over and done with and they just radiate...
I am somewhat of a closet skating fan, you see... Last night was the World Skating Championships in Tokyo Japan and today was the exhibition skate. Miki Ando won gold, Mao Asada won silver and the Korean won bronze for the women. Joubert won gold for the men, followed by Daisuke Takahashi and I don't remember who won third. The two Chinese pairs won gold and silver (I think Shen and Zhao and won gold and I think he proposed to her last night as well...)...
Anyway, I had some nice little fangirling moments today! First was the fact that one of hte skating pairs (I think it was Denkova and Staviski) used Ken Hirai's Elegy as their song! Too cool!
Me, I had downloaded the song back in January or Febuary so I was familiar with it and when I heard the song, I knew it had to be Ken Hirai. I mean, how can you mistake Ken Hirai's voice? And I listened more closely to the lyrics and I just knew it had to be Elegy!
And then, when Miki Ando went, the announcers were like "she got her friend Ayaka to sing the song" and I was like "OMG!!!!" and there she was. Ayaka's I Believe is such an amazing song! To be friends with Ayaka and to have her sing while you're skating...that is so amazingly incredible! *sigh*
I do kinda wish Mao Asada had won though... I liked her performance a little more... :\ And it was so damn close too! It was pretty shocking and I felt for her when she found out that she lost. There's always next year and the Olympics in three years though.
*laughs* It does seem like Japan is taking over the skating scene, isn't it? With Miki Ando and Mao Asada and Daisuke Takahashi... And I think there's another Japanese guy that I'm forgetting too. What happened to all the Chinese figure skaters? I mean Shen and Zhao are leaving the game and they were always pairs too... :\
Okay, I must go and study! If I don't study Japanese tonight, I'll be screwed on Tuesday when I'm at the Blades of Glory advance screening and not studying for my chapter test... Yay, Japanese. :\
