Registration Stuff
Nov. 9th, 2007 06:54 pmSo I met with my advisor today and it was pretty good. It was the first time I've met with Dr. Reiss before since she's been on sabbatical for the last year or so. I was a bit scared of her because all I really knew of her was from Freshman year Bio when she covered immunology and her lecture was wicked hard, not to mention her questions being absolutely impossible. So that formed a lasting impression on me about her.
I have her for Immunology this semester and her midterm was also absolutely impossible. I scored a 47 and that apparently correlated to a B- because of how poorly in general the class did. Thank god for curving!
Anyway, Janet told me she was a bit condescending but I would have to disagree with her after meeting up with Reiss today. She was very nice and she didn't go into anything personal at all and it seemed much more enjoyable than any of my other advisor meetings. I think I actually liked her. And she thought my proposed schedule was great and I was in and out within half an hour.
So next semester, I plan to have four courses, this time, with none of those courses requiring a recitation! And two of those courses only meet one a week. That does mean those classes are extra long but I don't mind.
I'll be taking Gene Structure and Function on Wednesdays from 2:00-4:45 followed up with Advanced Japanese II on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:55-6:10. I'll also have Intro to Computers and Programming on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM. My last class is Field Lab in Ecology, which is on Saturdays, from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM. I know, I know, I said I would never take another Saturday morning class ever again after I overslept my Chem lab Freshman year but this class sounds like a lot of fun despite being five and half hours long. It's supposed to be very hands on and I think I'm going to like being in nature for one day a week. I certainly have been missing it since coming here.
So, I'm basically having class on Mondays, Wednesday and Saturday, which means I get over half the week free! That's so incredibly awesome! Right now I get the weekend and I get Friday which is about as much as I've ever gotten but I get one more day next semester! ^^
I plan on working those days but thankfully, nothing before noon so I can get a decent amount of sleep. And if you notice, no classes before 11 AM which is also awesome.
I seriously hope I can take Gene Structure and Function this semester. It filled up before I could register for it last year (and I registered on the second day of registration, early in the morning too!) and with this year being a Senior, I get to register on the first day at 9:30 AM so I think I'm going to get in.
The only class that I'm iffy about is the computer course because I don't care about programming all that much. And it seems to be work intensive from the way Janet gripes about it all the time. If there's something else I can take on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:00-12:15 or even 12:30-1:45, it would be awesome.
I've got to find a resource online that tells me what courses are offered at what times... Maybe the Registrar? If there's something else that's interesting, I would really like to take that than another computer course that is likely to drive me batty.
In other news, Demonoid is gone again, this time with the CRIA threatening the company that rents them their servers. People online are saying that it might come back because the tracker is still up and running (thank god, I have one more GB out of a nine GB download left running) and that they're going to move servers again. Hopefully that is true because Demonoid is my favorite BT tracker out there. So here's to hoping that Demonoid comes back eventually, or if not, that the tracker keeps on running for a good long while.
