The week is OVER!
Mar. 5th, 2008 09:29 pmThis long, exhausting week is pretty much over! I'm going to use the next couple of days to rest up and relax before I have to go study like crazy for my Gene Structure and Function midterm. It's after Spring Break but I don't know if I'm going to have that much time to study for it actually...
I've decided to work through Spring Break. I toyed with the idea of going away for a small trip to Canada or Washington DC to take in some cultural sites and stuff like that or just staying in NYC and going to every single tourist attraction that I can since this is my last semester here. But money is probably a better thing. I work only four days a week and I think I'll work another hour extra. I typically work from noon to five for two days, 1 to 5 PM on one day and noon to 3:15 PM another day. That day that I work from 1 to 5 PM is because I have class until 12:15 so I can't get there in time for the period before it. So on spring break, I can work that actual period. I mean I'm there for that period the other three days I work. And I can still take the weekends (with no Ecology trips until the 29th!) and that Wednesday to do my NYC sightseeing.
This is mostly decided through guilt. I skipped work for two days in a row. I normally wouldn't care if it just had been the Ecology classes that I missed because they're kinda evil but I hate missing the math class and disappointing the teachers I work with because I decided not to go to work literally just as I'm supposed to be leaving to go to work. I really wish I had their emails or something like that but I never bothered to get them... So now as my penance, I've decided to work spring break. Whatever. At least I'll make lots of money.
So, a little update on this week. I took my Programming midterm and I couldn't quite fall asleep the night before. I ended up getting only about three hours so I was really out of it during the test and ended up making such stupid mistakes, three of which cost me dearly. I could have had an added 12 points on the exam, possibly 14 points if I just had been a bit more alert and not out of it. Whatever. It's only the first of three exams so at least I can make it up by doing better on the other two. Hopefully. Apparently, if you get an A on the final and do all the homework assignments, you're almost always guaranteed to get an A.
I spent the rest of the day and night working on Ecology, on my Journal, my take-home quiz and my Ecology paper presentation. It was a long day. And Tuesday, I was still wrecked, completely and totally wrecked and I woke up late and missed my bus. The next one wouldn't get me to work on time and I knew that I was probably better off resting up and working some more on Ecology. The presentation went well and my team was one of the few times that ended on time without having to skip anything.
I am a bit pissed that I only got a 94 on the Massapequa Preserve journal entry. I literally spent hours on that. It took me like three hours to write it up and another three just drawing the damn pictures! And I lost five points because I didn't go in detail enough. In detail enough! Oh my god, I thought I was going into way too much detail as it was! That's got to be another hour or two to get full credit on the entries. Plus, I lost a point because apparently our names had to be on every single page. What the hell. She could have mentioned that before... :\
And the horrible thing is that because she didn't give us the grading rubric until yesterday, the entry that was due yesterday is also going to get those six points taken off. I'm not too happy.
What was also horrible about this week? So... my computer, the new one that I bought in early January has been BSOD on me like a lot. And it's been having issues with going to sleep and not coming back from it. That and Vista not starting when I restart. When I can get into System Recovery, I try repairing the startup error but Vista still won't start up. I tried almost everything including the System Restore to bring it back to a earlier restore point. But that really didn't help. Then I got a new BSOD error and I realized that I can't deal with this sort of crap any more. Especially not since it was doing this on Monday, the day I was working on my journal entries. And since I was pretty sure it was a bad program and because I didn't have this sort of trouble back at home, I decided to a Factory Image Restore to bring it back to factory settings and just start all over. I didn't have that much saved anyway and I can always reinstall the essential programs, this time selectively and slowly so I thought it would be a good gamble.
And for the most part it really was. Being able to restarts and have it actually restart and Vista start up is so awesome! And not having it go Black Screen of Death on me while I'm sleeping or out is also so awesome! I've been having computer trouble for so long that now it's working well, I'm very thankful.
I was a bit sad that I couldn't get back into my computer to save some of my files, like my school documents (a couple of papers I've done, my programs for my programming class). I realized yesterday that I lost all my pictures. I uploaded most of them to flickr so thankfully they're not totally lost but I lost pretty much all the pics from Chinese New Year, the American Museum of Natural History, Massapequa... I still had the Central Park pics on my SD card. *sigh* It's depressing but a small price to pay for having a working computer.
Now this week is over. I have work tomorrow, hopefully it won't be weird coming in after skipping two days... :\ I'll ignore it and hopefully they will too. I like when we just deny everything and never really talk about stuff. It's comforting in a way.
And lastly, I have a couple of pics to post, simply because they're so neat. I made myself some hot dog octopi today! Some pics:

I think I cut the legs too long... And I heard frying them give you better results. And my knife wasn't sharp so the legs were a bit disproportioned... :\ Not to mention that American hot dogs really aren't the thing to make these things from. I don't really eat hot dogs anyway (they have a weird taste in my opinion and they're typically too salty). I bought chicken hot dogs by mistake -- I was going for the turkey ones but I guess I grabbed the wrong one in haste.
Anyway, I used them in my soup noodles today since I didn't really have any protein in it. The noodles were dry Chinese lobster flavored egg noodles and the soup was made with chicken stock, Shanghai bok choy and ginger. And I placed the little octodogs on top. It does make it look cute don't it? I realize this isn't really a typical pairing but when you're kinda poor and only have limited foods on hand, you make due. I have to say though, this is a pretty balanced meal in my book. I mean I got the veggies, the carbs and some protein, albeit probably unhealthy but still... And if I get hungry later at night, I think I'm going to attack my very last grapefruit because I think it's about dead and just about ready to rot.
Oh my god, Martha's Theme is so awesome! I just downloaded the OST from Series 3 of Doctor Who and it's pretty amazing. I'm only on the third track and already I can feel. I can't wait to hear them all. I remember there being some pretty beautiful music that I wanted so badly but at the time there was no soundtrack released... I hope I can reacquaint myself with some of the more awe inspiring pieces. Martha's Theme though, I just knew that was going to be awesome. And I suspect Boe is going to be pretty good as well... And then there was that one during the time when the Doctor was human and had no idea who he really was... That one was pretty powerful so I hope they put it on it. Anyway, I think I've written just a bit too much on this entry so I think I'm going to stop now. ^^
