Fiction Family
Apr. 24th, 2009 03:03 amI've just realized I have a thing for tambourines. I wonder why that is? But I seem to gravitate towards these songs that feature tambourines... I mean, I know I've always been a fan of the percussion instruments (which I ADORE!) but the tambourine specifically? It's just been something I've been noticing in the sort of music I seem to like and it's like when I hear a tambourine, I immediately sit up and take notice because I have this thing for the sound...
It was the first thing I noticed about Fiction Family's When She's Near when I heard it in today's episode of Private Practice... That and the fact that the singer's voice was very, very family and I just couldn't place it.
I was very miffed when I went to TuneFind and found there were no songs listed for today's episode of PP! They already had the songs to Grey's Anatomy but not PP? How not cool. So I turned to my trusty standby of Google and it did not fail me. I saw the words "Switchfoot" and it all clicked. Why, yes, that is the voice of Joe Foreman! I've had this thing for Switchfoot since A Walk to Remember (yes, I realize it was cheesy and I probably shouldn't support Nicholas Sparks but still, I'm a girl and it had good music choices) despite the fact that they did Christian pop music but I've since made my peace with it. More or less. What can I say? I like the sound of Christian pop. I'll even live with the ambiguous lyrics which can be skewed as a love for God (*rolls eyes*) and all that so long as I can believe it's not really God they're talking about but their soul mate... Yeah, I know... Still, I generally skip the more faith related songs of Christian bands and to be truthful, Switchfoot isn't as bad as some of the others out there.
But it's been a while since I've heard anything of Switchfoot. I've been listening to a lot of Augustana, JEM and Until June lately and that's almost all I've been listening to. Some songs from the Scarlet Pimpernel musical (thanks to![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
yoshikochan who introduced me to it ages ago) makes it into my playlist every so often since I totally ♥ Rex Smith's voice. I just adore his Chauvelin. Well, I generally just adore Chauvelin anyway. And Percy but more the character of Percy than anything else.
Anyway, I digress... I'm downloading Fiction Family's album now specifically for When She's Near but also for the other tracks. Hopefully I'll like some of the others as well and that some of them will make it onto my playlist.
What was kinda weird was the fact that I couldn't find it either on Mininova or Demonoid. I had to go to The Pirate Bay to get it and it's download soooo slowly... :( It's times like this that make me wish I had a What.cd or a Waffles account... But getting invites is not easy at all... I would probably have to sell part of my soul to get a chance at getting an invite and I'm not so desperate yet. But I definitely contemplate it more often now than I have in the past...
