Jan. 15th, 2012 04:58 amSnow!! It's finally snowing after an entire day of hoping and praying and wishing! We have a light dusting on the ground and ecstatic!
As you may know, I love snow and this year, I've been pretty depressed since there hasn't been much snowfall. In fact, it's been a pretty dry winter considering the fact that we haven't had all that much rain either. And it wasn't just me, it's also the entire tourism industry here. It's been dead, more so than other winters, primarily because Mt. Hood hasn't been getting much snow therefore no good skiing or snowboarding is to be had on the mountain. But maybe that'll change a bit this weekend!
Besides that, I'm just glad to see my hopes for snow haven't all ended up with nothing. I was starting to think this year might be a bust, a bit like the winter of '06 where it rained on me the entire time I was back home from college. That sucked, a lot.
Aside from that, I just read some AMAZING Trip/T'Pol fanfics. They're one of my only het pairings that I read but damn, it's so nice to come back to them after such a long time. I hadn't realized the fandom was still kicking around but apparently there have been new fics being written while I've been away! And they're good! And long! And so full of angst, as the Trip/T'Pol pairing is typical of. I can't tell you how badly I've missed reading stories like the ones I've been reading tonight. Kurt/Blaine is awesome and I love watching them on Glee but they're teenagers. Whose fans are teenagers. Sure, they may be gay teenagers living in Ohio, one of which has already been gay bashed, but really, how much depth can you expect from them? Sometimes, you just want to read something with meat on it and I don't usually get that even from the good Glee fics I read. You know, the stuff that just captivates you and captures you for the entire time that you're reading it, and when it swells and ebbs, you're with it the entire way and has the capacity to absolutely destroy you because of what is happening to the characters.
And unfortunately, a lot Glee fic is just bad. There's also that. It reminds me a bit of the HP fandom, back when I wasn't as discerning as I am now. But when you're in love with a new shiny fandom, you tend not to be all that choosy... I was the same way with the HP fandom back on FF.net... And with the anime fandoms... *sigh* Sure, there's always awesome fic to be read but sometimes they're just few and far in between.
So you see why it's so damn nice to read story after story, new stories in fact, that were long, emotional, and incredibly well-written. My soul is thanking me right now. And with the snow, I'm feeling awesome right now! Better than I have all day! (It's been a bit of a bad one.) Yay for emotional pick-me-ups!
Now, I'm going to finish up with some FV crap, go back to reading TnT fics and download tonight's episode of SNL with DanRad on it. I've been hearing good things about it! But then again, to some people, DanRad can do no wrong so I have no idea if it's as awesome as they say. But I am eager to watch it, especially the part where he sings and plays a dog. ^^
