Sep. 7th, 2012 08:38 pmSo...the backlight of my laptop has failed.
At first I had been hoping it was just the inverter failing since that's supposed to be an easy fix but unfortunately, most of my symptoms are pointing towards the backlight failing so I doubt I'm so lucky to have an easy and cheap fix. Seriously, why couldn't it have been the inverter? :(
And I have to wonder, should I even try to attempt to fix it? Replacing the backlight is a pain and I'm not sure I have the expertise to do it (there's some soldering to do and I've never even seen a soldering gun in real life before). And paying for it to be fixed will definitely be way too costly... Considering this laptop is over four years old and I'm pretty sure the hard drive is failing (4 KB in bad sectors, BSOD pretty much every other day if not every other day or several times in a day...). I've taken to backing up my data every night because I'm so afraid it'll go at any moment.
As it is now, I can still plug it into an external monitor to get at the rest of the stuff that I haven't backed up so at least there's that. But at this point, I'm laptop-less and it makes me very uneasy.
So time for a new laptop?
But do I buy now and get rid of the uneasiness or do I wait for Black Friday and see if I can't get a good deal? It's less than three months away after all... Can I manage for that long with just my phone and the slow PC?
God, I hate computer troubles.
