I bought two pounds of dried chickpeas yesterday with the intention of making hummus. If I can't bake yummy and fattening cookies, cakes and other such desserts, then I'm going to go and try for more healthy snacks. Like my favorite hummus.
Anyway, the last time I cooked dried chickpeas, I used the crockpot and it took eight hours. And they turned out really well. I really didn't want to take another eight hours this time around. So I used this: http://www.thepauperedchef.com/2010/11/the-homemade-hummus-challenge-are-dried-chickpeas-better-than-canned.html as a guide to try and cook them on the stove.
It said it would need 2-3 hours. When I checked a little after 1.5 hours, they were absolute mush. They still made good hummus but I had other plans for that pound of chickpeas. Most it was going to be for hummus but the rest were going to be roasted... There goes that plan. All of it are going to be hummus! Tons of hummus!
I went and pulled all my carrots today so I'll be eating my hummus with my carrots. Yay carrots and hummus. The only better combination is hummus and Wheat Thins (and I have a Family Sized box of Wheat Thins).
I love hummus.
