So now that I know who the President is going to be (not someone awful), I'm a bit surprised at some of the local measures.

For one thing, we aren't amending our Constitution to allow private casinos and as such, no private casino in Portland. It wasn't even close! I thought with all the money being spent on it, it might have had a chance of passing, but it didn't. I guess we aren't so badly off that we need that extra revenue... I voted against both of them so yay!

And we voted down legalizing marijuana, again. But Washington passed it and they're only a bridge away... So I wonder if there won't be people going to Washington, buying it and then bringing it back here? Or Washingtonians across the river using it and then coming over here afterwards. I mean, most of them do their shopping over here anyway since we have no sales tax...

Both the state and county measures for schools passed -- now corporations won't get some sort of kicker refund and instead, it's going to be funding schools. And our county's property taxes are rising 35 cents per $1000 (isn't that kinda steep or is that a normal rise?). I voted for both since I believe in education but it worries me a bit when it comes to raising property taxes when they're already so high here...

Other than that, nothing really surprised me. I remain in the only Republican district in Oregon but it's never really a contest considering how Conservative this half of the state is. The district really covers the Eastern half of the state (I think if it's about area, it's actually more than 2/3 of the state) -- that's how little people live here. I really dislike Walden's politics but my brother is friends with his son and he tells me he's an okay human being... I just kinda wish he weren't a puppet of Boehner's... :\
