About Rodney... I personally thought it was a rather melodramatic explanation. It could be true, but there is also a possibility that Rodney paid more attention to mastering the technique (he loves accuracy and precision in what he's doing, doesn't he?) than the emotional aspect and the teacher was simply an honest man who could not encourage Rodney's parents' ambitions any longer. Besides, who knows how obnoxious and irritating Rodney had been back then... I'm sure he'd tried patience of many adults.
