I was reminded of something today while reading a fanfic.

While I was watching the Avengers, Loki said something that really shocked me beyond measure. He told Natasha that was she was "mewling quim" and at the time, I recoiled.

I couldn't believe that got through. I mean, oh my god! That's something I never thought would EVER get through the censor filters.

Maybe it's because it's not so well-known in America? I don't think anyone else in the theater noticed it. I mean, there were kids there! It felt so incredibly wrong... o.O

I probably wouldn't have known about it either if it wasn't for all my slash reading... I think I first came across that word in high school. It was a Buffy fanfic that had Angel and Spike all evil and taking Willow and Xander as theirs. I remember it distinctly, as I remember most stories that introduce new words into my vocabulary. For some reason, those seem to stick out in my mind most vividly, though in this case, it probably wasn't a good thing.
