Midterms and fire drills. Lovely. Reminds me of the incident I had at a hotel in London. Day after day, I planned not to get up before 10 am but people from neighboring rooms woke up at 8-9 am and roamed the corridor, talking loudly and slamming doors. All attempts to go back to sleep were fruitless. So you can imagine how I felt when in addition to all this noise I heard a fire alarm go off at 9 am. Apparently I was supposed to jump out of bed and run into the street. Ha! I decided not to move a finger until I saw smoke. And guess what? I was right! Nothing happened. People were hustled out of the hotel and then back again, like sheep.

What would have happened if people just ignored the alarm and waited for any additional signs of fire to appear or, in poor Greg's case, decided to pause before rushing out and to get dressed? Would there be disciplinary actions taken against them?
