Woah -- Storm!
Dec. 1st, 2006 08:11 pmI love lightening. I don't know why but I love the phenomenon of lightning. Through my closed blinds tonight, I was able to see a sudden flash and even though I hadn't heard any thunder or had even known it was raining, I knew it had to be lightening. How could I not take up the chance to see it?
So I pulled up my blinds and as I suspected, it was raining. And then the next thing I knew, I was seeing the telltale flashes of lightening.
I take my attention away from the window for an instance and when I looked up again, I noticed something very strange and odd... I couldn't see the lights of the buildings in front of me. It was as if they had all just blinked out of existence. This being New York and the skyline being almost impossible to miss, especially when you're on the 25th floor of a building, it was very strange. I turned off the lights to my room and I went to my window to get a better look and it was as if the clouds had descended and had shrouded the entire city. I could only see the building that's a block away which tells you that visibility was incredibly low. And the rain! It was amazing! It came in waves, rapidly falling -- it was like a torrential downpour and almost suddenly, the ground seemed to be flooded. It was amazing.I was so very glad that I wasn't out there in that mess. But inside, where it's warm and dry, watching it through my window, I'm happy.
And then the fog/mist started to receded. Almost as quickly as it had fallen, it dispersed and the lights of the city was back. It was as if the city had temporarily hidden itself and then like a magical city, decided to show itself once again. It's still raining and quite hard at that, but it's not as angry as it was before. And there's still lightening. They're most off to the right and left of my window so I haven't seen any strikes directly but maybe I'll get lucky and see a big one tonight.
It's most strange though. The sky seems to be clearing up but the rain is still falling... Maybe I just can't see the clouds though... *shrugs* Still, I'm glad I saw this. It was very unique. It was neat looking where I knew the Empire State Building was and not seeing it at all. ^^
