I made fried dumplings for dinner tonight! Well, not made made like I made them from scratch (although, I think I probably could), more like I bought frozen dumplings and then boiled them and fried them myself.

It's such a nice, quick and inexpensive meal! I bought a bag of dumplings today in Chinatown for $7.50 for 50 which makes the ten that I made tonight, cost only $1.50. It's fatty as hell and probably not the healthiest thing in the world (it might be had I just boiled vegetarian dumplings) but when you're not really starving, it's a nice little meal.

I usually don't fry my dumplings -- I'm usually too impatient to actually do that extra step. I mean you first boil them because they're totally frozen so they're already cooked once it gets through that step so I could eat them just like that. But today I had extra time and I wasn't too hungry and I thought to myself, wouldn't it be nice to have them pan-fried? And it was, really nice. I used a little too much dumpling sauce on them so they're a bit too salty (I should really know by now that I don't need too much of the stuff) but that didn't change the fact that it was nice and crispy when I bite into them. Sometimes, just doing a little bit more really makes a difference.

So today me and Janet went to have dim sum. It was a bit sprinkly today which made me sad because overcast days tend to make me overcast as well. And then Janet overslept on me again. :\

Anyway, after a bit of a runaround, we found each other and we got on the 6 to go downtown. I took her to Jing Fong because I really wanted her to experience the typical dim sum experience. It was absolutely packed! The wait was so long and I felt so bad for the people who had like 12 people in their parties because they seemed like they had been waiting a long time. Thankfully, they were seating all the smaller tables first and we only had two people so we only had about a 15 minute wait.

We were seated with another two people and then later on, another two people joined the table as well. For the most part, we just ignored each other so it was all good. We had some of the traditional stuff -- the long rice noodles stuffed with beef, the fried taro balls, the chicken feet... Janet didn't really like the chicken feet so that was kinda sad since it's like one of my favorite dishes.

We ended getting way too much food and we really couldn't eat any more. I really wanted to get some egg tarts to end the meal but we just couldn't manage it at all so it was really sad. I love me a good egg tart. But it's okay. Next time I hit Chinatown, I'll go and hit a bakery and get a dozen of them. ^^

Ah, it seems like a lot of my LJ entries these days are all about food. I swear, it's got to be all those food blogs I've been hitting. They give me good recs for place to eat but when push comes to shove, they show me how much of a foodie I am. I like food. I like eating food. I like finding new places to eat new types of food. The urge to become a food blogger is becoming stronger and stronger. This makes me really wish I had bought a digital camera last Thanksgiving since it seems like a camera is an essential tool of the food blogger.

That and the fact that I desperately need a digital camera this week. We had an Ecology field trip this week that requires me to take pictures of birds (I know, wtf, right? how can they expect everyone to have a digital camera?) and I don't know anybody that I borrow one from. It's like all my friends are like me -- no camera what so ever. :\ The problem is that we have to turn in the pictures with the worksheet because otherwise I would just make it up... I think in the end, I'm just going to have to buy a disposable camera and use that... Oh well, I'll deal with when I need to. I have until next Tuesday to get it done so it should be okay.

edit x1: Oh my! NEWS beat Tackey and Tsubasa as my top listened to artist this week! Did I really listen to that much NEWS this week?
