It was probably one of my better congees actually. The meat was flavorful, the congee itself smooth and creamy and for once the right color, not to mention that the thousand year old eggs held up well and didn't melt. The only problem was that I didn't make enough. :(

I had hoped guesstimating the amount of rice would be okay but obviously I failed seeing as I had about half as much congee as I normally would have. It's because I lost my little rice cup which I've always used to measure out my rice.

So now even though I've eaten, I'm still pretty hungry which makes me want to push up my plans for my korokke up to about now. And seeing as I do have some nice pork chops, I think I might make tonkatsu even though I have no tonkatsu sauce. I could head up to JAS Mart now and get some but I'm not feeling it. I think me going to buy a steak sauce when I go to buy ground beef and flour for my korokke would work just as well... Seeing as everything is still somewhat experimental even though I do have a recipe, I'm currently hoping for the best.

*head hits desk* I just asked Janet to leave the stuff in the sink because I was planning on washing them by hand but apparently she totally blanked on the whole thing and then proceeded to load them in the dishwasher. Oh whatever, I can take them out just as easily though. :\

Okay, so I need to go buy flour and beef. I'm going to be good and just buy those things. It'll be nice if I could also get tonkatsu sauce at Associated but the chances of that are practically nil. So I'm going to endeavor to just buy ground beef for one meal and a very small bag of flour. I'm thinking that 3:30ish should be a good time. That'll give me time to finish my fanfic and to do some other stuffs. Here's to another day of yummy foods! Sure, high in fat and carbs but yummy none the less. At least I hope it will be. :\

So I made my korokke and tonkatsu today! It ended up more or less okay. I did however set off the smoke detector twice and my tonkatsu ended up too dry and my korokke underseasoned but for the most part, it was all edible and pretty damn good for my first time I think. Next time I'll know what I'm doing and I can refine the whole process a bit.

Korokke and Tonkatsu )

I took a pic of it all with my cell phone since that's the only thing I can take pics with and as you can see, they turned out a bit bit burnt but they were still pretty good. The two on the left side were the tonkatsu... The top one was my perfect, round, mostly well fried korokke. It just turned out the best and since I fried it with clean oil, I'm sure that it tasted the best too. I had wanted to eat it myself but when I offered one of them to Janet, I so knew she would go for it and lo and behold, she ate it. I'm a bit depressed about it, seeing as I had planned on enjoying it slowly and I had saved it so I could do just that. And seeing as she didn't make the damn thing, I really don't think she enjoyed it as much as I would have.

But it's not like I can totally blame her. It was the least burnt, the most round, the best korokke on the plate. I was so proud of it... I would have chosen it myself. Well, maybe I wouldn't. I'm usually not the type to take the best or biggest or whatever piece of anything. It's the whole belief that it's not within my place to do stuff like that. Second best is okay but never the best one... It's a rare indulgence for me if I ever take the best one and while I prepared myself for it, and I knew that Janet would take it and I tried to reconcile myself with it, I still feel a bit of a loss. As I thought about it, I toyed with the idea of eating it myself before but didn't so I guess I only have myself to blame.

Well, okay, no more of these depressing feelings. I can't change things in the past -- it's gone and it's been eaten so the only thing I can do is the future. I still have half the beef left so I can make this again. I don't have that many potatoes left but I can always get more... They're cheap after all. I'm thinking next weekend since weekdays are my busiest times of the week. Hopefully it'll go more smoothly and I'll have much better specimens next time. Hopefully yummier, crispier, rounder. So next weekend is korokke round two! ^^
