Hey Ya (acoustic version)
Jun. 20th, 2009 05:41 amWhy didn't I know this was out there sooner? I missed it on Youtube when it first got big but I've never been one of those people who goes around Youtube in their spare time watching random videos... But I didn't even recognize it on Scrubs! I mean oh my god, this song was so big when it first came out but the cover is so different that it totally went by me. It was that song Ted was singing after the Janitor's wedding to Lady... My first thoughts when I heard it was that it was a pretty little song but I didn't give it much thought after that. But then my brother pointed out that it was a cover of Hey Ya and that's when I became absolutely obsessed with the song.
Go have a listen and tell me it's not awesome: Obadiah Parker - Hey Ya (acoustic)
And think back to Outkast's Hey Ya. You know the one -- the one that was partly black and white (remniscent of the first American performance of the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show) with Andre in green playing various different band members and the memorable line that tells you to "Shake it, shake it like a Polaroid picture." Seriously, they are like night and day. Frankly, when it first came out, I thought Outkast's song was a bit obnoxious even if I conceded the fact that it was pretty catchy. But Obadiah Parker's cover? Oh my god, crooning, acoustic goodness. It's slowed down to some beautiful guitar picking (something I've always adored) and is transformed to a soulful and insightful little song. The lyrics really come out and gives an absolutely different feel than the original. And I can easily say, this version of the song may be my favorite version of the song. I could just listen to it all day.
