Ladders are scary. I've never actually been afraid while on a ladder before but for the first time, I was paralyzed with fear and was freaking out about falling off of it as I tried to climb down. I've never been so scared for my life before! ><

Here I was, four feet off the ground and I've been way higher up on ladders before. I'm not afraid of heights, and on occasion, I do love a nice adrenaline rush but this was different. I was trying (unsuccessfully) to change the lightbulbs in the hanging light over the stairs. They've gone out one by one and about a month ago, the last one went out. We've just sorta left it since it would have been a bitch to change since it's like hanging off of a 20' ceiling...

Anyway, the other day I noticed we had a telescoping ladder, something that would be perfect for this. Unfortunately, it's only 5' in its step ladder form so it wasn't tall enough to use it as a step ladder so I laid it against the wall on one of the wider steps of the stairs... Since it wasn't all that wide, I wasn't able to get a very good angle and it was a bit too steep for me. All I could think of while I was on it was that me climbing down would end up making it push off the wall and I'll die a very painful and messy death... Thank god I was able to get down.

I know it was stupid to do this alone (I could have died and no one would have known about it for hours!) but I wanted to try it out. Never again. I'm going to wait until my brother gets home tomorrow and have him either do it or have him holding the ladder as I do it. It'll probably be the latter since he's pretty afraid of heights (despite being a boy, he has a surprising many girlish phobias)... But I'm going to get those damn things changed if it the last thing I do.

I mean, the other night, my grandmother screamed my name to open the lights as she was stuck on the stairs in the dark. She doesn't like having lights on for an extended amount of time (to save money *rolls eyes*) so she generally won't turn on lights. In fact, she'll go out of her way to turn off lights -- even when they're in use by other people! If she thinks it's excessive light use, off it goes. *sigh* If anything, I need to prevent that scene from ever happening again.
