It's done!
I think it turned out pretty well. More or less. I have yet to taste it because it's not Mother's Day yet and I haven't presented it to my mother but from what I had of the trimmings, it was not bad. Although, I think the oil gave it a funny taste... :\ But not bad!
I even managed to decorate it in a somewhat pretty manner! I hope that middle strawberry stays put though -- it's perched upon the orange segments (remind me never to segment oranges again, it's such a bitch). And I still suck at frosting. Especially when using whipped cream. It's so soft and doesn't stick on very well... *sigh* But it was better than my first attempt, even if I forgot about the crumb coat this time... *sigh* I need to level up when it comes to decorate cakes.
Inside are more strawberries and some bananas. What can I say? I love the combination of strawberries and bananas. It's my favorite type of smoothie! ^^
The whipped cream is worrying me. I don't know how it'll hold up tonight and tomorrow... I found out that pectin couldn't be used as a stabilizer so I just omitted it. My fingers are crossed that it won't decide to melt and self-destruct in the night. Hopefully. I waited until the last minute to frost it since I'm not quite sure whether or not to present it tonight after midnight or tomorrow morning. It would make a nice midnight snack, which is about when my parents consume the most sweets and my baked goods. It is a tasty whipped cream though -- sweetened slightly with powdered sugar and with vanilla. I ate the rest of the strawberries left over with it. And the left over kiwis. Which weren't ripe after all. But everything tastes better with whipped cream! ^^
I had extra everything... And extra kiwi. Lots of orange segments (because they're from two oranges), which pisses me off thinking about it because it was annoying as hell segmenting them and I ended up having about an orange worth of segments left over. And a whole banana left. Not to mention lots of whipped cream. I didn't even whip all of it. *sigh*
All in all, it took about six hours, with the baking and cooling times added in. I woke up early for it and now I'm tired and sleepy. *yawn*
