May. 10th, 2010 02:28 amFinally had a slice of the cake (no pictures yet of it's insides, unfortunately) and it was pretty good! The fruit ratio inside was a bit on the low side though. :( My mother couldn't even taste the banana in her first bite. And she found the kiwi to be horribly sour. :( But the cake itself was AWESOME! It was just as a Chinese cake should be -- so very soft and light... I have to say, this is probably the best cake I've ever made. The texture was spot on for a sponge cake, even though I made it yesterday, it seemed absolutely perfect!
I absolutely must remember that trick with the simple syrup! I brushed it on on every single surface of the cake as it was supposed to keep it from being too dry and I'm certain it was what made the difference! Sooo good. Although, like I said, the old vegetable I used gave it a slightly odd flavor at parts of the cake. Eat it with the whipped cream and fruit and it was absolutely fine though.
I found out today that everyone on earth was calling my mother asking if she enjoyed her cake. O.O I understand my siblings -- Diana actually reads my LJ entries and I told Kent about it weeks ago (and emailed him a pic of it just to spite him) but my aunt? How did that happen? I was quite shocked. I think there are people reading my entries that I hadn't known they were reading... It's a good thing I ended up presenting her with the cake the night before or otherwise she would have been spoiled horribly...
Okay, off to wash my hair! And then, I'm spending the rest of the night with my Kare Kano manga collection since because of
svz_insanity, I've rediscovered how much I loved this series. It's so nostalgic... I can safely say, it's the only manga series that I've ever bought that isn't yaoi related. Well, licensed versions anyway since I have the entire HnG Japanese manga too... First series to get me into anime and manga deserves that honor. But as far as shoujo goes, Kare Kano will probably be one of my strongest and deepest favorites.
