Mar. 28th, 2012 06:34 pmSo, I bought a nice whole wheat bread yesterday and some provolone and pepper jack cheese slices. I don't usually indulge my sandwich cravings so it's a bit of a splurge for me who generally sticks to white bread and American cheese. I actually really love white bread and it's still my preferred bread, the empty calories and lack of nutritional anything be damned. There used to be a time when I didn't eating anything but white bread but as I've grown older, I've learned to appreciate the better breads out there but they still don't trump my love of plain old white bread.
Plus, American cheese, overly processed and orange, is tasty in my mind. I'm not sure it actually is cheese (the plastic look is quite suspect) but it melts wonderfully and I like it's nostalgic and comforting flavor. So I generally don't stray that often from normal white bread, American cheese, iceberg lettuce type sandwiches.
But since I decided to get a nice type of bread and some real cheese for my favorite hummus sandwich (kinda wish I had given into the urge to grow my own alfalfa sprouts because they would have been AWESOME in this sandwich), I decided to also invest in some nice honey ham, coarse ground mustard (my first time having it, hopefully it is as wonderful as people make it out to be and that it elevates my sandwich to a point where it justifies the expense -- I just really hope I won't hate it), and green leaf lettuce. This sandwich is gonna be awesome! I won't even sully it with ketchup. I'm envisioning a beautiful ham sandwich here.
As for the hummus one, I had meant to make my homemade hummus last night so it has the night to meld flavors but in the middle of making it, I realized I didn't have a lemon on hand! Stupid! What is hummus without some sort of acid? So I delayed it to today so I could go and get a lemon and of course, I can't eat it today when it's not as full potential, but tomorrow, a hummus sandwich with peppers, onions and mushrooms and melty provolone and pepperjack cheese. It's delicious, made even more so since my hummus is 100% homemade since I make my own tahini. And damn, my latest batch of tahini is beautiful. It looks like a silky peanut butter, I'm so pleased with it. ^^
Good sandwich days are ahead for me. It's probably a bit silly how happy these simple things make me. :)
