Anyone else see that weird orange-ish/reddish moon tonight? What is up with that? I thought I was imagining it but it really wasn't its normal white... It went away after a few hours though.

I think the first of my snap peas are ready for harvest. Or just about ready. I realized the really big but flat looking pea pods that looked a lot like snow peas are probably snow peas. Or they're some sort of mutated flat sugar snap peas but I think it's more likely a snow pea seed accidentally got mixed into the bag of snap peas. When I realized the flat pods I had been waiting to thicken hadn't, and that they were getting bulgy with fattened peas, I harvested it. Thankfully, it wasn't too old and fiberous. I ate it fresh and it was nice and crisp and oh so sweet! It was actually sweeter than one of the snap peas I tried. So I think maybe I need to give the snap peas a bit more time and to just harvest the snow peas when they seem ripe.

The snap peas, well, they look like snap peas. But they're a bit small so I think I harvested a couple of them early. And because they weren't as sweet as I had hoped. :\ So a few more days with those and hopefully I'll have enough for a meal (eventually).

IMG_1840So I made a corn pico de gallo today. It was delicious by the way. But what really elevated it? Using some of it to make a chunky guacamole. Now that was amazing! It was OH MY GOD worthy, hands down.

The problem? My hands are BURNING. It's painful. And it just gets worse and worse... T_T I've literally tried everything to stop it. Soap and water does nothing. Milk only works for about a minute. So does vinegar. And oil. And lime juice. I've even tried a sugar scrub made from sugar and oil. My hands? Really smooth now (tip for all you people who want smooth hands) but once again, it's temporary relief.

I seriously don't know why I haven't learned better by now. This is the third time I've burned myself from cutting jalapenos and it's been the worst yet. I don't know why most of the time, it's fine and I have no problems or why sometimes I hurt like this. I really need to get gloves because based on past experience, it'll be tomorrow before I stop burning.

Until then, I've give up dunking my fingers in various crap. An ice bag seems to help so I'm doing that until it abates to a bearable level. I heard taking an over the counter pain killer will help so I took an ibuprofen. I thought about aspirin since I have that extra strength Bayer sample kicking around but taking 500 mg of aspirin is a bit scary...

Right now, I'm just hoping it goes away somewhat by the time I go to sleep. Because it's gonna be a bitch trying to fall asleep when half your hand feels like it's on fire.

Was it worth it? Take a look at my pretty guacamole. IMG_1854 It looks worth it, doesn't it? It tastes worth it. But when your hand is burning? You're more focused on the fact that there's a freaking fire that just gets more and more intense.

But like I said, it's a pretty damn good guacamole. If you notice, it's fairly chunky since I decided to put some avocado cubes in it along with the smashed parts. And the cilantro? Homegrown. The corn is fresh, though I didn't grow it. I did steam it and cut it from the cob though. I ground up a clove of garlic with some salt with a mortar and pestle and added some cumin this time. It taste so much better than my previous attempts so I think I have my future guacamole recipe.
