The problem? My hands are BURNING. It's painful. And it just gets worse and worse... T_T I've literally tried everything to stop it. Soap and water does nothing. Milk only works for about a minute. So does vinegar. And oil. And lime juice. I've even tried a sugar scrub made from sugar and oil. My hands? Really smooth now (tip for all you people who want smooth hands) but once again, it's temporary relief.
I seriously don't know why I haven't learned better by now. This is the third time I've burned myself from cutting jalapenos and it's been the worst yet. I don't know why most of the time, it's fine and I have no problems or why sometimes I hurt like this. I really need to get gloves because based on past experience, it'll be tomorrow before I stop burning.
Until then, I've give up dunking my fingers in various crap. An ice bag seems to help so I'm doing that until it abates to a bearable level. I heard taking an over the counter pain killer will help so I took an ibuprofen. I thought about aspirin since I have that extra strength Bayer sample kicking around but taking 500 mg of aspirin is a bit scary...
Right now, I'm just hoping it goes away somewhat by the time I go to sleep. Because it's gonna be a bitch trying to fall asleep when half your hand feels like it's on fire.
Was it worth it? Take a look at my pretty guacamole.

But like I said, it's a pretty damn good guacamole. If you notice, it's fairly chunky since I decided to put some avocado cubes in it along with the smashed parts. And the cilantro? Homegrown. The corn is fresh, though I didn't grow it. I did steam it and cut it from the cob though. I ground up a clove of garlic with some salt with a mortar and pestle and added some cumin this time. It taste so much better than my previous attempts so I think I have my future guacamole recipe.

on 2012-07-06 07:30 am (UTC)You poor thing! My worst-ever ex-flatmate once shrieked from the loo after cutting up chillies, you can imagine what happened. Great food, though!

on 2012-07-06 09:04 am (UTC)Thankfully, I wasn't stupid enough to go to the bathroom using that hand. After consulting many websites, it seems like a very common mistake people make so I was properly warned... But I'm mostly fine now -- ice for the last six hours seemed to have worked (I suspect it was more the time than the ice that made the difference though).
