Winter Storm Draco!

You read that right, Winter Storm DRACO!

How awesome is that?

Apparently it's supposed to slam the West in the next couple of days.

And here I was, thinking we wouldn't get any snow this year...

It's been an unseasonably mild winter. It's been wet, but we've never really gotten cold enough for snow. Or ice. It's been around the 40s for pretty much the last month. And it's been weird. I can't help it, I think of snow and cold weather when I think of winter. And it doesn't feel like December or Christmas without it so I haven't been feeling the passage of time and the winter season as I have in previous years. Normally, we would get our first snow in late November or early December (of the non-sticking variety). But this year, I hadn't seen any and December was already halfway over. So I've been lamenting the fact that if we were going to get snow, it would probably be in the new year.

So it was to my complete shock that yesterday we got a few inches of snow. I know! We've been around the low 40s that I thought we would never be cold enough for snow, much less snow that sticks. I had watched the weather forecast the night before and even they said we would only get rain. Snow wasn't in the plans at all.

But we ended up with about 2-3" and our first snowfall of the season! It was really beautiful! Driving in it was a bit of a bitch though. I think it caught everyone unaware because accidents were happening all over the place, people were stalled in the middle of the road, halfway up hills, that sort of thing. I went and shoveled our entire driveway, our steps, the walkway and the sidewalk in front of the house so I'm all sore today. And I think I didn't really need to do it because it warmed up pretty quick and the rain basically melted everything today. It's all slush, what still remains at least since most of it has melted...

But I guess this is just the lull in between storms because Draco is headed our way! I hope he gives us tons of snow! But not so much that people can't come home for the holidays. My brother should be getting back this week and I would hate it if he were stuck with no way back home...

Still, I love it that the winter storm we're having is named Draco. Seriously, how awesome is that? And considering the holidays and Christmas always puts me in a H/D mood (so many fests and advents!), it seems absolutely perfect...

And yay, snow! God, I love snow! Even shoveling it this year was fun because I spent so much time thinking I wasn't going to have any snow before the New Year that it was just so nice to be proven wrong...
