Pop Rocks, ID4 and Strawberry Fest!

Since I'm not really in the mood to do several posts, I'm smushing them all in one. :)
Right now, I've just finished watching the last episode of Initial D: Fourth Stage! And eating Pop Rocks! I absolutely adore Pop Rocks but I'm a bit sad they aren't the Pop Rocks with the sucker to stick the Pop Rocks on... It feels as though there were many little exposions in my mouth -- so good. I'm sure it can't be good to be eating foods infused with carbon dioxide, but hey, I drink soda all the time so I doubt it's too harmful.
Anyway, the last episode of ID4 -- very, very good. Takumi is looking cool isn't it? ^^ I was very happy to heard Rage Your Dream at the very end because I absolutely adore the cyclic nature of it all. But it made me a bit sad as well -- going back to the beginning is a way to end and all, but with such a complete circle, it's hard to add onto it because the cycle is complete, you know? But then there was the trademark "See you again..." at the very end of the episode so I'm so hoping for a Stage 5. I mean who wouldn't be? Even though there have been so many episodes already, there are still fans who want more! Initial D was the first series that I actually spent money to buy the DVDs -- that's how far I fell in love with it.
And yeah, I so measure the strength of my love by how much money am I able to waste on them. I'm more of a restricted money spender, aside from much loved series (Kare Kano, HwD, ID, etc) and probably only food (I like food and I like to eat, so sue me) so for me to spend money on it means I love them.
Today, was the Strawberry Festival at my school! It was partly in celebration of NYU's 175th birthday so before going to it, I knew it would be bigger than last year and oh my god, it was amazing!
I swear, NYU has a lot of things bad about it (the way it's so rich and still milking its students for everything they've got, the incompetent bureaucracy that rivals Russia's, their lack of care for their students) but it does know how to do the Strawberry Festival well. I mean, oh my god, it was entirely free to NYU students and their guests and the stuff they gave away... *eyes her Strawberry Fest bag of goodies* You really do get a sense of how RICH this school is. But that's one of the perks of going to a private school right? Not to mention America's LARGEST private school. ^^ I really am feeling the NYU love right now. Other schools might love their students more, but do they have cool Strawberry Festivals every year where you make off with a ton of free food and stuff? Right before finals start, this is such a nice way of relaxing. There were even people skipping work and classes just to hit the Strawberry Fest.
Anyway, this year there were many more booths. I got there about 1 PM even though I had intended to hit it exactly at noon. My body protested and I wasn't able to get out of bed until after noon so I was like, it's only one hour, they should still have plenty of everything, right?
By the time I got there, it was about 1 PM and it was PACKED! Everyone was there and the lines for every booth was huge! The first thing I got? Stocked up on my strawberry candy! They had them in these big baskets near the NYU trolley they were stuffing with canned food as part of a charity event. Little did I know that end of the street was the end but since the candy didn't require the ticket, I was able to make off with a ton of it. I grabbed like five packets of Pop Rocks, a handful of Laffy Taffy, a ton of those Jolly Rancher sticks and several Sour Powers -- all strawberry flavored of course!
Then I had to go all the way down the street to the end to get the ticket that would ensure me lots of free food. The line sooo long! Oh my god, it was terrible and I was despairing over the fact that it would take me forever to get in. As soon as I had my ticket in hand and my hand stamped with the strawberry, I immediately went to the cake.
I absolutely ADORE Strawberry Short Cake. I dislike cakes but Strawberry Short Cakes are an exception. They're strawberry-like, and they're covered in whipped cream instead of frosting so they're not as sickly sweet as normal cakes. And it was long! I think they outdid themselves this year in the length. It really was NYC's longest Strawberry Short Cake. What I didn't like about it was the fact that the had put sprinkles on it this year. Who the hell puts sprinkles on Strawberry Short Cake? It was an affront! They should have put strawberry slices -- I mean they had so much of it so it's not like they were lacking in strawberries.
Next, I went and got ice cream. Oh my god, sooo incredibly sweet! They were vanilla ice cream cups with strawberry topping on the bottom and on the top and it took it a bit to melt enough that I could get at both of them together easily. So sweet, yet so good... I was already in such a sugar rush!
After my ice cream, it was cotton candy time! I love cotton candy so it was like, oh my god, so good. What's as good as eating pure sugar? Anyway, while waiting in the monstrous line for the cotton candy, I found Xiao! She let me cut (which I kinda felt bad about but since the line was sooo long, I didn't care all the much) and we both got cotton candy... Mine wasn't stuck onto the paper cone thing so it kept falling off so I had to eat it quickly. While Xiao was getting her ice cream, it gave me a chance to finally polish off all of my own ice cream and to eat the cotton candy.
Anyway, we were off to the popcorn after that. This year, they didn't do it in cups but rather huge plastic megaphones!!! Thus, we got a lot of it! And now I've got a cool red, Strawberry Fest Megaphone! ^^ I'm not a big fan of popcorn but I wanted the megaphone so I gave my popcorn to Xiao who loves the stuff. I just wanted something salty to reset my taste buds because the next station I wanted to hit was the Strawberry smoothie station and I knew after eating all that cotton candy, if I didn't eat something salty, it would ruin the taste of the smoothie. The line -- the longest line I was in today. It was crazy! Smoothies aren't exactly that great but it just so long... o.O Maybe I hit it at bad time? *shrugs* Anyway, we got another cup! It's very similar to last year but this time I was able to get a blue one to match the red one I got last year. ^^
After that, well, it's a strawberry festival, isn't it? I just had to get some strawberries. They lines for them weren't as long but they gave so many out! I liked how they decided to give them in those strawberry baskets you normally buy strawberries in -- very cute! When I got up to the booth, I saw how much strawberries they had -- it was even more than last year!!! O.O Cases upon cases, upon cases and several more stacks of cases and then times that three because there were three stations of fresh strawberries. They must have cleaned out an entire strawberry farm for this event!
There were so many more events! Sandy Candy which was different colored candy sand that you squirt into these little tubes to eat. And of course, strawberry snow cones! It wasn't that hot to day (60s) but with all the people, it felt a lot warmer than that so I had to get some.
We saw the Strawberry guy this time again! Last year we actually waited in line for him, but they weren't doing magnets this time and only Polaroid so we decided to skip out. The line was just too long, you know?
Up on Gould Plaza in front of Tisch Hall, they had the carnival games. If you played, you could win a Frisbee, but since neither of us, Xiao or me, were into playing them (too physical and humiliation inducing) and we didn't want Frisbees, we just watched. We did get some nice free pizza! That was basically my lunch for the day. ^^;;;
Oh! Oh! Oh! There were even free MASSAGES!!! Me and Xiao even joked about it -- if we tell our friends from HS that our school hired out people to give us free massages, wouldn't they think "What kind of school do you go to???" LOL, really, what kind of school do we go to?
It was really wonderful and I didn't want to leave but I had to because I had to hit the post office to get my passport renewed. Seeing as I have no ID on me, I had to get it soon if I wanted to get back. I should be getting it within two weeks though, but I'm glad to get that over. The people in line with me for the passport windows must have though I was crazy, caring bright red bag and a bright red megaphone... ^^;;;
Then I went over to Strand, hoping to buy Masha a copy of Ender's Game. They didn't have it but they did have two copies of Speaker for the Dead, so I got that for myself. And I saw Haruki Murakami's The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and I was so tempted to buy it. After all, it's supposed to be even better than Kafka on the Shore right? But I didn't know if I had enough money on me so I abstained. But I definitely want that book with me when I go back home. Reading on an airplane -- the best way to pass the time away! Well, that and sleeping. :) It's a 6 AM flight so I probably won't be reading much but rather sleeping but still, I want it just in case I want to read, you know? Besides, I totally fell in love with Murakami's writing style in the last book so I'm looking forward to this one.
So it was a nice day. :) I overdosed on the sugar but it was all good. ^^ Diana, eat your heart out!
