Why didn't anyone tell me about this?

I was watching the FNS Kayosai and in it was a medley done by this guy named Noriyuki Makihara and as he was singing, I couldn't help but think the first song in the medley was very familiar. I started humming it and when I realized I could follow along, I knew I knew the song. But I couldn't figure it out. He kept on singing and I kept on thinking it was the most familiar thing ever and then he got to the "sayonara" part and I freaked! It was Leon's "Sayonara"!!!

Leon Lai's "Sayonara" has always been my favorite song. It's just a good song! I was just so incredibly shocked to hear it on FNS sung by this Japanese guy that I wasn't even all that familiar with. And that god me thinking -- who did a cover of whom?

After some searching online (gotta love the quickness of the internet), it was actually Leon who did the cover of Noriyuki Makihara's "Mou Koinante Shinai." I never knew! This does make me want to hear more of Noriyuki Makihara's music. He has this voice that's so...different. I'm not sure I love it or hate it but it's definitely memorable.

I had saw him performing earlier in the performance with CHEMISTRY during "Yakusoku no Basho" and now I soooo wish there was a version with all three of them out there somewhere because I have totally fallen in love with the song. It's just so damn good. Their voices actually work really well together which moved over both Makihara and CHEMISTRY for me. I had tried CHEMISTRY a few years ago but thought I didn't really like their voices but it just works so well with Makihara.

When I first realized what the song was of, I immediately went to call Diana-chan but she picked up and hung up on me which mean she was busy so I didn't try again... :( I really wanted someone to squee with. I mean it's Sayonara!

If there's an English name to put to an artist, I usually would use that since English usually easier for me to wrap my head around. But most of the time I can recognize both. Although I don't keep up with the people that's popular nowadays to really recognize any of their Chinese names..

Yeah, a normal conversation about Chinese stars in my household goes like this:

Dad: Do you have any Wong Fei music? I don't remember where I put her CDs!
Me: ... Faye Wong?
Dad: ....
