Oh, my, I had no idea!

sherryillkI decided to try my hand at some translating tonight and I decided to start with my copy of "Invader, hold the love!" by Maguro Wasabi and as I was researching it online, trying to find if any groups had picked it up (I like to compare translations and see how close I am to what other people who are probably way more advanced than me did) I found out something interesting.
Apparently Maguro Wasabi is actually Higashiyama Kazuko, the person who drew tactics. I did think the characters were a bit familiar but I thought they were just familiar in the way that all the current yaoi/shounen ai mangas out there have similar-looking boys...
Imagine my shock! That is so neat! Anyway, translating is really time consuming! I'm kinda bad at Japanese so I'm moving along at my slow pace but it's not bothering me too much. Tonight, I want to try and get through half of chapter one! It's about 16 pages long and currently I'm on page 2. I really want to do all of chapter one but I think that's a little too ambitious for someone like me.
I really hope this helps my Japanese a bit. I'm bad at reading (and speaking and writing -- I totally fail at Japanese... T_T) so hopefully with more exposure, I'll be okay. Right now, I can kinda skim the chapter and get what it's talking about but I lose a lot of the nuances and details and those things can be important! In the end, I just want to become better at Japanese.
And at the very least, I hope I can at least try understand manga that I own.... It's been taunting me a bit so I thought I might as well use the end of my spring break making a dent in them...
Okay, back to work! It's amazing how much more you understand when you take the time to look up the words you don't know... It makes it so much more clear... But I seem to be having trouble understanding what sort of connotation the words have... :\ I'll have to work on that...
edit x1: An hour and a half later, and I'm finally on the 8th page and I'm so stuck! What the hell is "rifutingu"? I hate katakana, I seriously do. Rifutingu? *so confused*
