Yeah, I know. I live pretty much in the middle of a big pile of frickin' woods and I only just heard one three years ago. I wonder why they're so hard to see in nature. I see squirrels, raccoons, groundhogs, rabbits, and deer all the time, but never an owl.
It's the same with me, lots of raccoons, the occasional deer/elk, but never any owls. Until last night, I hadn't even realized we had owls around here simply because I've never heard or seen one in the wild before.
