Have I ever said how much I hate Alicia Keys' love song to New York?

I really, really, really hate that song. I just don't understand how it got as popular as it did... Was it because it was Jay-Z? I mean, sure, the fact that I hate Alicia Keys (not to mention my abhorrence of hip hop) influences my opinion of Empire State of Mind but it's just a song about New York, something I'm sure most of the country wouldn't even really get, so why was it popular? Popular enough for Glee too? It makes me wanna cry. :(

edit x1: And seriously, if something like that happened in the courtyard of my high school (albeit our rather small courtyard but very popular among the preps), we totally would have been into it.

edit x2: O.O Charice?! Charice?! I THOUGHT SHE WAS FAMILIAR!!! Oh my god, Glee, you somehow managed to worm your way even deeper in my heart~! AWESOME COVER OF TELEPHONE!!! I so need that song, like now.

edit x3: UGH! UGH! WHAT IS WITH GLEE USING THE SONGS I HATED OVER THE SUMMER?! Kent is so gonna laugh when he finally watches this... T_T

edit x4: Oh, Beiste. I actually really like her, starting from the moment she made a lot of sense in the principal's office.

edit x5: :( Charice isn't staying? :( Can I hope for her coming back (although, condo and green card? kinda hard to pass up...) or is that too much?

Well, to be fair, it's actually Jay-Z's song and Alicia was featured. (She later wrote a sequel, Empire State of Mind II).

I adore Charice. She's fantastic, I hope she gets featured in more episodes. :)

I don't like either one of them so it doesn't really matter to me. And it was the "New York New York" chorus-y part that Alicia sang that really grated on me.

Charice was pretty awesome in this. I hope they'll be releasing the full Telephone song because I wanna hear it all.
