So, I made onigiri today for lunch. I only had one strip of nori left -- David ate them all! T_T -- so I ended up covering the rest of them with shrimp furikake.
I would have pictures but my mother borrowed my camera and hadn't returned it to me. And I hadn't the foresight to ask for it back. So no pictures -- T_T. Believe me, I'm beyond disappointed because they turned out soooo well! I used my new onigiri mold and they all look good! I probably should have put more rice in each of them since they kinda fall apart when I bite into them... The filling was canned tuna with Kewpie mayo, Sriracha with a splash of rice vinegar. I only used one cup of dry rice to get me two cups of rice but it was too much! I ate half of the six I ended up making and I'm stuffed. I'm not really sure how well they'll keep -- a few hours for sure but I'm not sure how I'm going to keep them from drying out...
Anyway, I will definitely have to make them again, if only so I can take photographs of them. I'm actually quite bummed that I'm full since they're so tasty and I want to eat more but I don't want to feel sick afterward... But I suspect it'll be worth it... Next time, I'll have to get more nori and also make some yaki onigiri as well. And I'll take pictures like hell out of them all.
Okay, maybe one more. Yummy, yummy, yummy!
edit x1: I caved. I feel slightly sick but god, was it damn tasty. How is it that it tastes so good?! Rice and Sriracha mayo and tuna shouldn't go so well together! At this point, I'm wondering if I could make more rice, mix it with the leftover tuna (and there's a lot of it since I used one and half cans of it thinking I would need it -- nowhere close) and sprinkle it with furikake and just eat it with a spoon. I suspect it would be delicious. But right now my stomach is definitely protesting.
