Well, I just had an hilarious talk with Kent! We haven't talked in ages because he spent his reading week visiting Italy and Switzerland so he was staying in sketchy hostels with no internet. :(
But I finally got to talk to him for about two hours! I didn't get a chance to write anything because of it but talks of little brother travels trumps everything!
He did seem to have an okay time. He didn't quite enjoy Italy very much since it rained the entire time he was there and the fact that he had been hassled by the police/soldiers there. Apparently they're racist, something I had never heard of at all. You hear about how badly the French treat foreigners but I hadn't heard about Italians.
But he had been hassled by the police (they also carry very big guns there!) way too many times and he did not appreciate it at all. Once, a policewoman even pointed her big gun at him to get him moving along while at one of the monuments at Rome! How outrageous is that?! I'm pissed off for him but he didn't say anything since he didn't want to cause a scene. And the fact that he had been pretty intimidated by their big guns. He was even woken up while on a layover at the airport by some cop asking for his passport. And he watched the same guy wake up an African traveler near him but passed right by the white guy napping beside him! And then a different guy later on asked to see his passport again! o.O It's a freaking airport -- of course you're going to get non-white travelers waiting around for their flights! What, since when did Asians become part of the watchlist for terrorists?
It's talk like that that make me rethink visiting. Even Kent says visit once but never go again. He's certainly forsworn ever going back to Italy... Still, this makes me very sad. I thought Europeans were more enlightened than Americans...Seriously, Kent was wondering if he had somehow stepped into Arizona instead of Italy...
He did like Zurich though. Apparently their subway system is really nice. I can't quite conceive of it since I've only been on the NYC subway and it sucks. Kent says he thinks London's metro is worse but I have such a hard time believing it. There is just no way there's something worse out there.
Anyway, it's late but I'm going to try and crank out 500 words or so tonight. I had my first "unsuccessful" day today since I was 225 words below the targeted 1667 daily word count goal but I don't mind as much as I thought I would. I was feeling so burned out, it's amazing I had even gotten that much.
My progress thus far:

Tomorrow, I'm going to try and work harder at my fic. I think last year I had some almost 10,000 word days and while I doubt I'll be that successful, I'm going to try and aim for 4,000. *laughs* I think it's a bit of a pipe dream since I don't type much less write that fast but I'm going to work towards that goal. And I'm going to my first meetup! Or write-in, whatever you want to call it. *shrugs* I suspect it'll be small but it'll be nice to get encouragement from fellow Nanowrimo'ers in the area. ^^
Hopefully it won't be too distracting though... :\
