I think my peas are finally coming in!

I harvested my first pod two days ago but the peas were small and they weren't very sweet. But they did have the strongest pea flavor I've ever tasted so I figured it needed a bit more time. Today, I harvested five pods (not very many, I know) and they have peas much more like the size that I'm accustomed to. And they were sweet! Not bursting with sweetness but they were sweet. It was more like bursting with pea flavor with sweetness more than anything else. I wonder if I was supposed to leave them longer on the vine? Will they get sweeter with that same strong pea flavor? I really don't know since I'm just learning as I go. But I'm afraid that if I leave them too long, they'll just end up getting old and starchy and not good eats at all... What a dilemma...

And the strawberries are kicking in! Since moving them into the backyard, I've only had one strawberry taken from me so I'm inclined to believe it's really just animals this time. I only have the one plant so I was only able to harvest three strawberries but there are more coming in. Yay!

My cilantro is in its last gasp though. :( But I did use a lot of it to make pico de gallo and guacamole so it's all good. Some went to my parents and my sister and there's still a fair amount of leaves still left so there's maybe one or two more harvests left. Still it was a nice run. Maybe I'll reseed it for later in the summer?

In contrast, my sweet basil is FINALLY coming in. They're still tiny seedlings and I only have a few which leads me to believe the majority of the seeds didn't sprout or just died under all that water... Oh well...

The green onions are about halfway done growing. I feel like I should harvest them while they're young. I feel the same way about my heirloom carrots. It's getting bushy in that pot and they're actually looking like baby carrots! They're like baby baby carrots at this point so I'm hoping they'll just get a bit bigger and then I can thin them out and actually grow some big carrots up as opposed to all baby carrots. Still, my plan had been for baby carrots so who knows...

Lastly, I have no idea what's going on with my sugar snap peas. The regular ones seem to be doing fine, even if some of the plans are dying for some odd reason (not enough water? too much water? not enough nutrients? frying in the hot sun? I have no idea...) and in contrast, my sugar snap ones are in amazing health. Only, there aren't as many pods, and they're all kinda small right now. And the ones that are of decent size, look like snow peas. And I know I didn't grow any snow peas. I really dislike snow peas. My parents used to do a ton of snow peas and like zucchini, I've gotten all snow pea'd out. Are the pods going to get fatter? They have to, right? But the pods are really long, not like cute little sugar snap pea lengths... I'm hoping they're just really slow and it'll all work out and I'll finally have some sugar snap peas to eat this summer because really, there are few vegetables I love as much as I love the sugar snap pea.
