IMG_1840So I made a corn pico de gallo today. It was delicious by the way. But what really elevated it? Using some of it to make a chunky guacamole. Now that was amazing! It was OH MY GOD worthy, hands down.

The problem? My hands are BURNING. It's painful. And it just gets worse and worse... T_T I've literally tried everything to stop it. Soap and water does nothing. Milk only works for about a minute. So does vinegar. And oil. And lime juice. I've even tried a sugar scrub made from sugar and oil. My hands? Really smooth now (tip for all you people who want smooth hands) but once again, it's temporary relief.

I seriously don't know why I haven't learned better by now. This is the third time I've burned myself from cutting jalapenos and it's been the worst yet. I don't know why most of the time, it's fine and I have no problems or why sometimes I hurt like this. I really need to get gloves because based on past experience, it'll be tomorrow before I stop burning.

Until then, I've give up dunking my fingers in various crap. An ice bag seems to help so I'm doing that until it abates to a bearable level. I heard taking an over the counter pain killer will help so I took an ibuprofen. I thought about aspirin since I have that extra strength Bayer sample kicking around but taking 500 mg of aspirin is a bit scary...

Right now, I'm just hoping it goes away somewhat by the time I go to sleep. Because it's gonna be a bitch trying to fall asleep when half your hand feels like it's on fire.

Was it worth it? Take a look at my pretty guacamole. IMG_1854 It looks worth it, doesn't it? It tastes worth it. But when your hand is burning? You're more focused on the fact that there's a freaking fire that just gets more and more intense.

But like I said, it's a pretty damn good guacamole. If you notice, it's fairly chunky since I decided to put some avocado cubes in it along with the smashed parts. And the cilantro? Homegrown. The corn is fresh, though I didn't grow it. I did steam it and cut it from the cob though. I ground up a clove of garlic with some salt with a mortar and pestle and added some cumin this time. It taste so much better than my previous attempts so I think I have my future guacamole recipe.

I was always told that you need to dissolve the oil before you can start to treat the burn. Rubbing alcohol is meant to do the trick, rub over well with cotton wool, then rinse with soap and water and follow up with aloe vera or another burn-soothing cream.

You poor thing! My worst-ever ex-flatmate once shrieked from the loo after cutting up chillies, you can imagine what happened. Great food, though!
