So, a few days ago, I discovered a bruise on the outside of my thigh on my right leg. It was pretty high up and like most of my bruises, I had no idea how I got it. From the location, I figured I probably just bumped into something. But then yesterday, I found a second bruise on my other leg, also on the outside of the thigh and surprisingly enough, it's about the same height as my other bruise. And now I'm just confused. What am I running into? I know I bruise easily but still, two large bruises on both my legs within a few days of each other? It's getting a bit too much. I sleep on my side! I'm always sleeping on one leg or the other.

The horrible part about this entire thing is that I don't remember getting either bruise. Not the first nor the second. And they're not exactly small bruises or light so I must have hit something hard. Ugh, I hate not knowing how they happen. It's almost like they're popping up on their own... :\

I often have similar bruises and have tracked them back to three common causes:
1. Lifting my bike down off its too-high rack and using my thigh to catch it so I can lower it to the ground in a more controlled fashion. Sometimes also lifting down heavy boxes using a similar technique.
2. Running for a bus with a laptop or big heavy book in a satchel or book bag, which just bangs into you in the same spot with every stride.
3. Bumping into tables while walking quickly, which will give you a very similar bruise on each leg if you do it going in opposite directions. You might think this would hurt enough to notice, but it tends to just be a bit of a knock that doesn't feel that bad.

Any of those actions sound familiar?

I have regular calf bruises from whacking myself with my bike pedals as I walk it past people getting in and out of the office :-)

Hmm... the only heavy lifting I've done lately is lifting my laundry basket so that might have done it. I do like to rest it on my thigh whenever I need to open a door but it's never bruised me like that before. And then again, I generally have no depth perception and I bump into things all the time...tables, chairs, walls...
