I didn't like Glee Actually.
It was too much. Too many stories, not enough overlap and overall, none of them really told really all that well. I was also pretty distracted while I was watching it since Christmas anything generally turns me off.
The few things I did like were the fact that Brittany and Sam aren't actually married. It really bummed me out to think that Coach Bieste would condone something as stupid as an impulsive teenage wedding and help them get married so when it was revealed she wasn't insane, I was very happy. As for the whole wedding part... Wow, way to disrespect the sanctity of marriage. The fact that straight people can pull that kind of crap when gay ones can't even get married after years and years of being in a committed relationship is pretty whacked.
I also liked the fact that it seems like Blaine is handling the whole break up much more maturely. And isn't being pushy. Or too needy. And I like Puck moving back to Lima -- but now Mercedes is all alone out there... They didn't really show the two of them hanging out in LA so it probably doesn't even matter but this feelings like another way to further push Mercedes off the show (like with Quinn).
What I didn't like? Burt having prostate cancer. WTF?! Is Kurt NEVER allowed to be happy?! Kurt isn't even a favorite character of mine (I really can take or leave him at this point now that he and Blaine have broken up) and I found that horrible. First a heart attack and now cancer. Sure, they're writing it off as early stages and the cure rate of being nearly 100% but somehow it feels like it's gonna loom over our heads forever now. Kurt will probably graduate from NYADA and Burt will have a heart attack. Or the cancer will have come back and now it's spread everywhere and he's stage four and he dies right when Kurt gets his first major role on Broadway. It feels like that.
So I really dislike this whole storyline. A LOT.
But it did help me buy into the whole Burt bringing Blaine to NYC to be with Kurt after he tells him. Because if he wasn't thinking "long term" and the "big picture" because he has to because of his cancer, I would imagine Burt being pretty pissed off and not all too forgiving of Blaine. What I didn't like was the fact that he told Blaine before he told Kurt. WTF?! x2. He tells the boy who cheated on his son he has cancer before he tells his son??? How does that make any sense?
I really hated Kurt and Blaine's Christmas duet this year. I hated last year's too, and the year before that, but at this point, it just seems like they're getting worse every year. And at least the first one sounded good. And the staging for it was flirty and fun. Last year's song was way too fast and it didn't sound all too great but like the year before, the staging was pretty good. This year? Not fun. Not really all that flirty. And it sounded horrible. Darren sounded way too low and Chris way too high and outside of the inherent romance of ice skating, there wasn't much that was all too redeemable about it. :\
But from what I see, Kurt is clearly not into Blaine any more. He's never been shown to be that into Blaine after he got him but now especially it seems like he has no romantic feelings for Blaine. Whereas Blaine seemed very concerned about Kurt, sneaking glances, trying to gauge his feelings, that sort of thing. While I do like Kurt moving on from the boyfriend who cheated on him, I'm not sure I want to watch pining!Blaine longing for something that is clearly not going to happen. And if Blaine does get into NYADA (I hope he gets waitlisted or something along those lines but no matter what, if Blaine gets in there on his first try, some people are still going to be pissed off by it), it'll just be more of that only now he'll be tortured with being able to see Kurt physically moving on instead of just hearing about it and imagining it in his head.
That being said, I really want Blaine to be happy and I do think Kurt is still a big part of that happiness. So I do kinda want them to get back together for Blaine's sake. But for Kurt's, I really don't think it's the best idea. What I need is for Blaine to get a new romantic interest so I can stop being invested in Kurt and Blaine. Because without Blaine also actually moving on, I'm not sure I can fully root for Kurt to move on with Adam.
Next episode is Sadie Hawkins. It better have some good Blaine moments or else I'm just going to be more and more disappointed with Glee. Although, at this point, I can't imagine not being disappointed by Glee anymore...
